As a Maintenance Mechanic within the Great Lakes Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Plans, develops, and executes annual facility budget and preventive maintenance plans. Identifies, justifies, and submits Facility Maintenance Management Systems (FMMS) projects for approval by Branch Chief. Troubleshoots and resolves building operations issues. Performs maintenance and repairs. Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative for onsite projects. Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver. Physical Effort:
The work requires a considerable physical effort and strength to operate power tool; work from elevated sites; and handle plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building materials. The work requires considerable amount of daily walking, bending, crouching, stretching, climbing, lifting of up to 100 pounds or more, and other similar activities. Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in scientific laboratory spaces or mechanical systems rooms. Work performed outdoor will be exposed to severe cold, ice, heat, sun, rain, or wind condition. Design, planning, estimating and other duties are performed in an office environment. The selectee will be exposed to the normal possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shock and back or muscle strain due to the nature of the work. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the basic work of the position without more than normal supervision through experience shown in the written resume and responses to the job related task statements in this announcement. To be basically qualified for this position, applicants must meet any identified screen out element.Screen-out Element:
Independently provides building, grounds, and facilities maintenance without more than normal supervision. This includes working at the journeyman painter performance level, installing and repairing electrical systems, and cutting, constructing and repairing wood and wood substitute items. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
